The Proposal

Early in our relationship, Hunter and I had talked about getting married as a "what if?" scenario.  We knew we were very serious about our relationship - we wouldn't have started dating if we weren't - but we began to explore just how serious we were.  Eventually "what if?" discussions changed to "when we..." discussions, which then evolved to "When do we want to?"

Hunter promised me that the proposal would come "sometime between January and August" of 2010, and that I'd have a say in what my ring looked like.  In mid-January we went ring shopping, but he refused to let on when he was going to purchase the ring, let alone when he was going to propose!

Several months went by and I tried not to think about it.  Hunter's niece's birthday party was the day before Easter, and that Thursday he suggested we go for a walk after the party.  On Friday, he asked if I knew when the sun was setting on Saturday evening, and when I didn't know he downloaded an app to his phone to find out.  He was very persistent about this, which got me a little suspicious but again, I tried to put it out of my mind.  After his niece's birthday party, Hunter and I came home but he was impatient to go on our walk.  He went and put on a sweatshirt, and drove us out to a local beach.  We strolled along the beach for a few minutes, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful ocean sunset, when I realized his hands were shaking and a little clammy, and his heart was nearly pounding out of his chest!  About halfway down the beach we stopped to enjoy the sunset, at which point he wrapped me in his arms, pulled out the ring, and asked me to marry him.  Clearly, the rest of the story is history :)
